The Chopta Chandrashila Tungnath Trek is one of the most rewarding Himalayan experiences, combining adventure, spirituality, and unmatched natural beauty in a short duration.
Day 1: Rishikesh to Sari Village
Altitude (Sari): 2,000 m / 6,600 ft

Day 2: Sari Village to Baniyakund
Altitude (Baniyakund): 2,600 m / 8,500 ft
Drive Distance: ~60 km | 2–3 hrs

Day 3: Baniyakund to Chopta – Trek to Tungnath & Chandrashila – Return

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Rishikesh to Sari Village. En route, pass through Devprayag, the sacred confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers.
Enjoy short stops for meals (at your own expense) while taking in the beautiful mountain views. Upon arrival, check into your guesthouse and relax. You can explore the peaceful surroundings of Sari village in the evening.

Drive Distance: ~60 km | 2–3 hrs
Accommodation: Camps/Cottages
After breakfast, drive towards Baniyakund, a scenic meadow near Chopta surrounded by forests and open landscapes.
Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation. Spend the day at leisure, acclimatizing and enjoying the calm Himalayan environment.

This is the summit day of the Chopta Chandrashila Tungnath Trek. Start early and drive to Chopta, the base point of the trek.
Begin your trek towards Tungnath via a well-defined trail through meadows and forest sections. Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world and holds great spiritual importance.
From Tungnath, continue towards Chandrashila Summit. The final stretch is steep but rewarding. At the summit, enjoy breathtaking 360° views of Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedar Dome.
After spending time at the summit, descend back to Chopta and return to Baniyakund for rest.
Drive Distance: ~200 km | 7–9 hrs
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Rishikesh. Enjoy the scenic drive through the Garhwal region.
You will be dropped near Tapovan, Rishikesh, from where you can plan your onward travel.

Chopta is well-connected by road via Rishikesh and Haridwar. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, and the nearest railway station is Rishikesh, both approximately 200 km away. From there, you can hire a taxi or take shared transport to reach Chopta.
Mobile network connectivity in Chopta is limited, with only BSNL and occasional Jio/Airtel signals available in certain areas. There are no ATMs in Chopta, so it is advised to withdraw cash in nearby towns like Ukhimath or Gopeshwar.
You should pack warm layers (including fleece jackets), sturdy trekking shoes, a raincoat or poncho, gloves, and a headlamp. Weather conditions can change quickly, so packing essentials is important even in summer.
Chopta is well-connected by motorable roads from major towns in Uttarakhand, including Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun. The roads are generally in good condition, though certain hilly stretches may be narrow and winding. It is advisable to travel during daylight hours for a safer and more comfortable journey.
