The Valley of Flowers Trek in Uttarakhand is one of the most renowned trekking experiences in India, recognized globally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a protected national park. Famous for its rare and exotic alpine flora, the valley offers a visual spectacle that attracts nature lovers and trekkers from around the world. Spread across approximately 87 square kilometers in the Chamoli district, the valley lies within the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. During the monsoon season, this region transforms into a living paradise, bursting into a rich display of diverse flora and fauna. The combination of colorful flower beds and towering Himalayan peaks creates a truly surreal and unforgettable landscape.
The trek begins from Pulna village and takes you through scenic Himalayan terrain towards two major highlights — the Valley of Flowers National Park and Hemkund Sahib. The trail is mostly well-defined and stone-paved, especially on the route to Hemkund Sahib, while the path inside the valley is more natural and uneven, adding to the raw beauty of the experience.
With its moderate altitude and relatively short distance, the Valley of Flowers Trek is suitable for a wide range of trekkers, including beginners, families, children, and even senior citizens. Throughout the journey, trekkers are treated to stunning views of prominent Himalayan peaks such as Hathi Parvat, Nilgiri, and Gauri Parvat, along with waterfalls, streams, and lush green landscapes that make the entire trek visually rewarding and memorable.

Day 1: Rishikesh to Pipalkoti

Driving Time: 9–10 hours
Drive from Rishikesh to Pipalkoti via Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Joshimath, enjoying scenic views of river confluences and Himalayan landscapes.
Day 2: Pipalkoti to Govindghat – Pulna – Trek to Ghangaria

Ghangaria: 3,000 m / 9,800 ft
Drive Distance (Pipalkoti to Govindghat): ~52 km | 2–3 hours
Local Transport (Govindghat to Pulna): 4 km | 15–20 minutes
Trek Distance (Pulna to Ghangaria): 9 km | 4–6 hours
Drive to Govindghat, then take a local vehicle to Pulna (road head). Begin the trek to Ghangaria through scenic trails alongside the Pushpawati River.
Day 3: Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers and back
Altitude: ~3,500 m / 11,500 ft
Trek Distance: 4 km each way (8 km total) | 6–7 hours
Explore the Valley of Flowers National Park, known for its rich biodiversity and vibrant alpine blooms like Blue Poppy, Brahma Kamal (higher regions), Himalayan Rose, and more.
Day 4: Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and back
Altitude: 4,329 m / 14,200 ft
Trek Distance: 6 km each way (12 km total) | 8–10 hours
A steep but rewarding climb to Hemkund Sahib, one of the highest Gurudwaras in the world, situated beside a pristine glacial lake.
Day 5: Ghangaria to Govindghat – Drive to Pipalkoti (Badrinath optional)
Trek Distance (Ghangaria to Pulna): 9 km | 4–5 hours
Drive (Pulna to Govindghat): 4 km | 15–20 minutes
Drive (Govindghat to Badrinath – optional): 25 km | ~1 hour
Drive (Badrinath to Pipalkoti): 75 km | 3–4 hours
Descend to Govindghat and continue drive towards Pipalkoti. Visit Badrinath Temple if weather and road conditions permit.
Note:
The Govindghat–Badrinath route is prone to landslides during monsoon. In case of unsafe conditions, the Badrinath visit may be skipped.
Day 6: Pipalkoti to Rishikesh
Drive Distance: ~200 km
Driving Time: 9–10 hours
Return journey to Rishikesh with scenic mountain views.
Day 1: Rishikesh to Pipalkoti
Begin your journey from Rishikesh and drive along the scenic Badrinath route, passing through the famous Panch Prayag confluences. The route offers continuous views of rivers and Himalayan landscapes, making the long drive visually engaging. Pipalkoti is a comfortable stopover with basic facilities.
Day 2: Pipalkoti to Govindghat – Pulna – Trek to Ghangaria
Drive to Govindghat and continue to Pulna via local transport. The trek begins from Pulna and follows a well-defined path along the Pushpawati River. The trail is lively with small food stalls and scenic viewpoints throughout.
Day 3: Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers and back
Today you explore the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich biodiversity and vibrant alpine blooms. The trail passes through waterfalls, wooden bridges, and lush greenery, offering a truly scenic experience.
Day 4: Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and back
A steep climb leads to Hemkund Sahib, one of the highest Gurudwaras in the world. The trail is physically demanding but rewarding, with stunning views and a serene glacial lake at the top.
Day 5: Ghangaria to Govindghat – Drive to Pipalkoti (Badrinath optional)
Descend back to Govindghat and continue the drive towards Pipalkoti. If conditions allow, you may visit Badrinath Temple en route.
Day 6: Pipalkoti to Rishikesh
Drive back to Rishikesh, concluding the trek with scenic views along the way.
Important Notes
Your stay during the Valley of Flowers Trek is arranged to ensure a comfortable and convenient experience, especially considering the remote Himalayan terrain and high-altitude conditions.
Accommodation is primarily provided in guesthouses and hotels at Pipalkoti/Joshimath and Ghangaria, which is the base for both Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. These stays are selected to offer a clean, safe, and accessible environment for trekkers.
Basic facilities such as bedding, attached/shared washrooms, and limited charging points are generally available. However, due to the location, facilities in Ghangaria are more basic compared to lower regions.
The focus is on providing a restful stay before and after trekking days, allowing you to recover properly and prepare for the next day’s journey. All accommodations are chosen keeping proximity to the trek route in mind to avoid unnecessary movement.
We try to accommodate preferences like group or separate arrangements, wherever possible, but these are subject to availability, especially during peak season.
These stays also act as a space to relax, organize gear, and interact with fellow trekkers, enhancing your overall trekking experience.

We provide simple, hygienic, and nutritious vegetarian meals, suitable for trekking. The focus is on balanced food that supports stamina and digestion in the mountains.
Meals are generally prepared using locally available ingredients and served fresh and warm. In Ghangaria, food options are basic but sufficient to meet trekking requirements.
For the Valley of Flowers day, packed lunch is provided, as no food is available inside the national park. During the Hemkund Sahib trek, meals can be supplemented with langar at the Gurudwara, which is not part of the package but available to all visitors.
During travel days, meals are usually taken at roadside restaurants (self-paid), giving flexibility in choice.
